Remembrance Sunday

What is the red thing the girl is wearing?
It is not by chance that she is wearing either it or that kind of coat. If you have seen the news today you will have noticed the same thing on the speakers lapels.

So, the challenge today is to find out what it is and what it means.
Leave your comments, I'll be waiting.

She is wearing a kind of brooch with a poppy...because At the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, the Great War ends and the red remembrance poppy has become a emblem of Remembrance Day due to the poem In Flanders Fields. These poppies bloomed across some of the worst battlefields of Flanders in World War I, their brilliant red colour became a symbol for the blood spilled in the war.
On 11th of November,Commonwealth of Nations member states celebrate the Remembrance Day (also known as Poppy Day), which is a memomrial day to remember the members of their armed forces who have died in the line of duty of the First World War

I didn't know the history of that brooch. Thank you ana.

What a coincidence that everything happens in an 11... Saray, neither did I. I was wondering what it could means, but I thought it has something to be with Queen Elisabeth, not with the Great War and the Remembrance Day. I supose the girl's kind of coat has the same meaning, hasn't it?
Thanks Ana for your explanation.
See you tomorrow!

How great that Ana has looked this up and taught us about "Remembrance Day", I call it Poppy Day because it is its symbol and because I really like the flower.
Have you seen the way they celebrated it this year? It was amazing. Let's see if the teacher puts photos here, or I will do it in the comment box. It was really beautiful!

I didn't hear something about that before, but it's a good occasion to learn about English history. Thank you for your comments!!

Once again, I would like to say thank you Ana for the story about Poppy pin and to Maria Jesús for uploading such an interesting clue! Thus it´s more funny learning English!

If you watch carefully, the coat wasn't chose by chance. It´s a kind of Trench Coat. Which started to be used during the First World Ward by UK Army. And it was made by a very well known brand: Burberry´s

How interesting Carlos, I didn't know that, so I had payed no attention what so ever to the coat. It's a very nice event in British culture and poppies are the most beautiful flowers ever :P What is a shame is the horrible tragedy that followed armistice day this year.
