Get away with it

With this post we are going to try to get the meaning of the phrasal verb "get away with something".

This expresion is used when you do something bad and you don't receive any punishment at all.

I think the meaning of the phrasal verb "get away with something" is:

The picture 1: to receive a relatively light punishment or to do something wrong and not be punished for it
Example: He was lucky to get away with only a fine.

The picture 2: to steal something and escape with it
Example: Thieves got away with computer equipment worth $30000.

It is a new phrasal verb and very useful, for example we can say to another person "you won't get away with lying about things" when people try to cheat us.

I think the meaning is: 'do anything without being noticed or punished'
